- ben gibbard, besides being the sassyist "it" boy around, is really talented, pretty much any death cab album will do (try the photo album, or the forbidden love ep), or if you are already a convert, there is always the postal service.
the kind of album that resists description: the workl most often invoked seems to be "atmospheric" which is another way of saying that it resists description. twinges of country, of soul, of pop. it grows on you, like kadzoo...

Unfortunately carrying the media label of "difficult" due to the time-shifting (revealing again the determination to undercut the intelligence of normal viewers) this is a careful and intricate script, with superlative acting (sean penn, benicio del toro, naomi watts) and a measured sense of style. If you don't go in on the assumption you will struggle to "get" it, you'll get more than you expect.
To what do we owe the transformation of clint eastwood into on of the premier american directors? this film benefits from great performances from a stunning cast, but at the end it is the way the film is put together, the aching tenderness of every frame amidst the destruction that give it poignancy and life.
